Pond Fountain
A pond fountain is a way of creating soothing and serene background sounds.
A water garden fountain also lends a touch of sophistication to a garden pond, it also adds much wanted oxygen to the fish pond to aid filtration of the water and keep pond fish such as Goldfish and Koi healthy and living during sizzling summer days. It also helps to aerate water to assist in keeping a garden pond clean, free of green algae and clear.
Modern pond fountains can come in a vast array of designs, shapes, sizes and materials.
Essentially, all fountains function identically: a hidden recirculating pump designed to transport a low volume of water at a high pressure is attached to one of the various styles of nozzles or fountainheads, creating the desired effect. Waterspouts— also called bubblers, simple sprays, and splash boxes—have a water reservoir buried underground. The reservoir contains the pump that pushes water through tubing to the waterspout, replicating a natural, bubbling spring.
Fountains either have a primary, dedicated pump or are connected by a delivery pipe to a distant pump fitted with other components. The size of the pump dictates the height and strength of the spray, so it's important to choose the proper-sized pump for your preferred pattern. Even so, the flow rate on many pumps can be adjusted within a range, allowing you some control over the fountain's pattern. Normally, keep the height of the spray less than one-half the width of the pool or pond.
Your choice of the fountain or waterspout itself is governed by your thoughts and compatibility within your design. Fountains usually are best suited for formal water features such as the center of a pool. Waterspouts do well in more informal settings. These effortlessly created features are great for close-up contemplative viewing in such locations as a deck, patio, or balcony. They add the sensual character of moving water and its burbling, delightful music to small-space gardens.
Fountains exist in a host of patterns, from spectacular rotating jets and geysers to tiered domes, rings, bell and tulip shapes, and arching streams; fountains enclosed within statues or other decorative ornaments Add new design elements to your garden. Match the scale of your fountain and its water exhibit to the site you have selected and to the nearby plants and structures.
Keep other considerations in mind as you select your fountain or waterspout. If you plan to incorporate fish or plants, avoid fountains constructed with lead fixtures; lead leaches toxins into the water that are a danger to plants and animals.
Keep in mind also; while fish can tolerate moving water, a number of deep-water plants, surface floaters, and oxygenating plants have a preference for still water with little current.
Select fountains with deep reservoirs if you plan to plant them with aquatic plants; the larger water volume will help keep the quality of the water pure and healthy.
